The cricketing community faced a tragic incident when an engineer, Vikas Negi, a native of Uttarakhand residing in Delhi’s Rohini, collapsed in the midst of a match near the Noida Expressway Police Station in Noida, losing his life to a heart attack. Negi, in his mid 30, was participating in a match between Mavericks XI and Blazing Bulls in Sector 135 when the distressing incident occurred.

While participating in a match between Mavericks XIs and Blazing Bulls as part of the S&B India Annual Cricket Tournament in Noida, a distressing incident unfolded. A video captured the moment when 34-year-old Vikas Negi, batting at 7*, collapsed on the pitch due to a heart attack. Negi, positioned at the non-striker's end, walked up to congratulate his partner, Umesh Kumar, after a boundary was struck. Tragically, moments after exchanging gestures with Kumar, Negi suddenly collapsed, prompting players from both teams to rush to his aid on the pitch. Despite their efforts, including attempts at CPR, they were unable to revive Negi.

Rushed to a nearby hospital in Uttar Pradesh, Negi was declared deceased upon arrival. The match, at the time of the tragic event, had reached a score of 143-5 in 13.5 overs, with Mavericks XI setting a target of 184 for the Blazing Bulls off 20 overs before the game was called off.

Another Tragic Incident From World Cup 2023 Final

This heart-wrenching incident recalls a similar tragedy in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh from a few months prior, where Indian cricket fan Jyotish Kumar Yadav, aged 35, suffered a fatal heart attack following India’s loss in the World Cup 2023 final against Australia. Despite efforts to save him, Yadav was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby government general hospital. Jyotish, according to his friend, reportedly experienced heightened tension and anxiety when India faced an unexpected setback after being all out for 240 while batting first. However, when the Australian team lost three quick wickets, he rejoiced in excitement. Unfortunately, as the Australian team steadily approached and eventually clinched the modest target, Jyotish suddenly complained of chest pain and collapsed.
