In what comes as a massive development in the Indian cricketing circles, it is being learnt that the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) is mulling to build a brand new cricket stadium. The idea is to come up with a stadium with a bigger capacity in the Amane village in Thane district.
"The MCA is looking to build a massive 1 lakh capacity cricket stadium, spread on around 50 acres of open land in Amane, which is 26km off Thane, and 68km from the Wankhede Stadium. The MCA has filled the open tender floated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to acquire the land parcel," a source close to the development was quoted as saying in a Times of India report.
MCA Waiting For Approval From Maharashtra Government
"The association is waiting for approval from the Maharashtra govt," a source added.
"This stadium was a dream project of MCA president Amol Kale (who passed away on June 10 in New York). It will have all the modern amenities, including two grounds on which first-class matches can be played," the source added.
Notably, the Maharashtra Government had felicitated four players of the state who were part of the T20 World Cup 2024-winning squad at the Vidhan Sabha including captain Rohit Sharma. During the felicitation programme, deputy Chief Minister had requested the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to consider building a new stadium, with a capacity of over a lakh. Interestingly, Kale happened to be a close friend of Fadnavis.
The news of MCA's plan of building a new stadium comes after the Wankhede hosted a felicitation ceremony for the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team.
