The former captain who featured in 99 Tests and 334 ODIs for India filed his nomination for the president's post in the Hyderabad Cricket Association last week, and his nomination was proposed by Adnan Mahmood and seconded by Zeeshan Adnan Mahmood.
Azhar getting elected to the top job in Hyderabad's cricket marks the beginning for the batting great in cricket administration. Despite being one of the most successful captains for India, match-fixing allegations on him brought down a rather unassuming end to otherwise a stellar career.
He appealed against the life ban in the courts and the ban was finally overturned in 2012. He also made his foray into politics by joining the Congress party in 2009 and was also elected as a Member of Parliament.
