After struggling with form and encountering few injuries, Martin Guptill returned to form with an unbeaten century after fast the bowlers bowled Bangladesh out for a low total as New Zealand registered an eight-wicket win in the first one-day international at Napier. Earlier, the 32-year-old missed the fifth ODI match against India due to a lower back injury, which later ruled him out of the T20I series.

Chasing 233 for victory against Bangladesh, New Zealand reached home in 44.3 overs with riding on Guptill’s unbeaten 117.

The Auckland-born was adjudged the Player of the Match for his brilliant ton. Later, the player was interviewed by none other than his wife Laura McGoldrick. In India, a similar cricketer-presenter couple of Stuart Binny and Mayanti Langer often make the headlines for their adorable on-screen interviews.

“The most pleasing thing was how the guys restricted Bangladesh up front with the ball. Losing 4 wickets in the first 10 is really tough to come back from. It (his back) is going to be a bit stiff. It is nice to see the boys home,” Guptill was quoted as saying.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no (time off from cricket helps) it still didn’t feel fluent. At most parts, we talk to each other but he (Taylor) just lets me through as I bat longer,” he added.

McGoldrick and Guptill met during a cricket show and got married back in September 2014 in Auckland. The couple have a daughter named Harley.
