Marlon Samuels, Former West Indies Cricketer, Found Guilty Of Breaching Anti-Corruption Code

Marlon Samuels, who amassed 11,134 runs and claimed 152 wickets throughout his international career spanning 71 Tests, 207 ODIs, and 67 T20Is, retired from international cricket in November 2020.

Dubai: Former West Indies cricketer Marlon Samuels has been declared guilty of committing four violations under the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code following a hearing conducted by an independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), functioning as the Designated Anti-Corruption Official under the ECB Code, had accused Samuels in September 2021 of contravening four instances of the anti-corruption code during a T10 league held in 2019.

The 42-year-old has been pronounced guilty after opting for a hearing before the Tribunal.

"The Tribunal will now evaluate the arguments presented by each party before determining the appropriate penalty to be applied. The final decision will be announced in due course," stated the ICC in a press release.

Samuels, who amassed 11,134 runs and claimed 152 wickets throughout his international career spanning 71 Tests, 207 ODIs and 67 T20Is, retired from international cricket in November 2020. The right-handed cricketer was an important member of the West Indies side that won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016. He even received the Player of the Match recognition in the final of both tournaments, the first player to have achieved the distinction.

The former top-order batsman has been found to be in violation of articles 2.4.2, 2.4.3, 2.4.6, and 2.4.7 of the Code.

These articles encompass the failure to divulge to the Anti-Corruption Official, acceptance of any present, payment, hospitality, or other benefits under circumstances that "could potentially tarnish the participant or the sport of cricket's reputation," refusal to cooperate with investigations, and impeding or delaying an investigation by "concealing pertinent information."



Samuels was a participant in a 2019 T10 league competition when he represented Karnataka Tuskers, a team captained by South African star Hashim Amla.
