Bengaluru: Indian captain Virat Kohli on Tuesday stirred up a major controversy by virtually accusing the Australian captain Steve Smith of cheating in the usage of DRS, flaring up the tensions between the two sides.
Virat clearly indicated that Aussies were systematically cheating in taking DRS. Virat said he had noticed that Australians were looking towards the dressing room for help, and they have been doing this for last three days.
Virat had informed the umpires much in advance and that is why umpires immediately knew and they intervened.
virat stopped short of using the word "cheated" but used the same famous lines that Anil Kumble, now coach and then skipper of Indian test team in that 2008 Monkeygate incident had used.
Virat Kohli's words at post-match created a new controversy and deepened the ugly rivalry between two teams.
Meanwhile, Australian skipper Steve Smith admits he had a "brain fade" in looking up to rooms while deliberating whether to refer. Admits he was wrong.
Early on in the game, Ishant Sharma, Smith, Matt Renshaw and Virat had a confrontation in the field.
