KL Rahul geared up his preparations for the South Africa tour, where he's set to lead the ODI team and likely take on the wicketkeeping duties in the Test series. Engaging in a rigorous training session in Mumbai, the star batsman focused on batting and fitness, displaying determination and readiness for the crucial tour.
In a recent Instagram video, KL Rahul shared his training routine and engaged in a light-hearted exchange with teammate Jasprit Bumrah. Rahul outlined his training plan, focusing on running drills and net batting sessions.
“Trying something new. Comment if you want more of this ✌️
Lej @jaspritb1,” reads the caption of the post.
During the training, Bumrah joined Rahul, both enduring the demanding session in the scorching weather. Rahul amusingly predicted Bumrah's quip about the challenges of being a fast bowler, which indeed transpired. “I can guarantee you Bumrah is going to tell how hard a fast bowler's life is," Rahul said. Bumrah humorously retorted that Rahul's job, batting, was comparatively easier – "Your job is easier, to bat, hide behind a bat."
Pleased at guessing Bumrah’s comment, Rahul exclaimed, "Did I call this or no?!" The session saw Rahul display his fluency and skill, notably during the batting drills.
Set to lead the team in the ODI series starting on December 17, Rahul's return from injury has been impactful, notably with a century against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. His contributions, including an unbeaten 97 in the World Cup opener against Australia, underlined his significance to the team.
Furthermore, slated to return to the Test side from December 26, Rahul is expected to take on wicket-keeping responsibilities in South Africa due to KS Bharat's underwhelming performances. Having missed out on the latter stages of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the World Test Championship final earlier in 2023, Rahul's comeback holds significant promise for the Indian team.
