Former Australian player Justin Langer came out as the frontrunner to become the Lucknow Super Giants' next head coach in the IPL. As per the reports, the former cricketer is likely to replace Andy Flower, whose two-year deal with the franchise concluded after the end of IPL 2023. Langer, who is currently busy with his commentary duties for the ongoing Ashes 2023 series, has been reached out by the LSG management, according to the report by Cricbuzz. However, an official announcement is yet to come by the  Lucknow-based franchise.

Talking about Langer’s coaching stints, the ex-Australian player helped Kangaroos to their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2021 and was also part of his side's dominant 4-0 Ashes victory.  Langer has also tasted success in Australia's elite domestic competition, the Big Bash League, clinching three titles with Perth Scorchers.

Notably, the Lucknow-based team has performed well under the coaching of Andy Flower, reaching the knockout stages in the last two seasons. The LSG are expected to continue with the rest of their coaching staff as Morne Morkel will continue as the bowling coach, Jonty Rhodes as the fielding coach, and Vijay Dahiya as the assistant coach, as per the report.

Lucknow Super Giants lost the elimination against  Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 and had played half of their games under the leadership of Krunal Pandya, who was appointed as skipper after KL Rahul was ruled out from the league due to injury. Meanwhile, other IPL teams who have not done well are likely to make changes as well in their coaching staff. However, the Kolkata-based franchise Kolkata Knight Riders despite finishing seventh in the last season will likely to go with the same coaching setup, headed by Chandrakant Pandit.
