The Swedish Cricket Federation (SCF) to invest in junior cricket, high performance and growth, signed up South African fielding great Jonty Rhodes as the head coach to the national side. The SCF in its statement claimed that the gentlemen's game is the fastest growing sport in Sweden and appointment of a legend like Rhodes will play a pivotal role to develop the game and players as well. Rhodes, the greatest fielder of all time, is currently serving franchise Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, slated to start from September 19. After the completion of the T20 tournament, the veteran will join the Stockholm based new side in November.


It was during the match against Pakistan in the 1992 World Cup when Rhodes announced himself to the world with his famous run out of Inzamam-ul-Haq.




Rhodes, who is known to be a person who loves to travel, said he is excited to relocate to Sweden and is ready to face the fresh challenges.


"I am really excited to relocate to Sweden with my family and work together with the Swedish Cricket community. This opportunity has come at a perfect time and I am grateful to be able to invest my energies in a completely new environment. I can't wait to get started," said Rhodes.


Rhodes played for the South African cricket team between 1992 to 2003. The star player was caught attention of the selectors by showcasing his unique ability to run quickly between the wickets. Known as one of the best fielders of the game, Rhodes attained a unique milestone during his career by becoming the first South African player take 100 One-Day-International catches.
