The report further stated that Harbhajan and the businessman met through a common friend in 2015 and that is when he loaned the amount to him. However, as per the complaint, even after approaching the businessman several times over the years for repayment of the loan money, he kept delaying or avoiding it.
Last month, the businessman had issued a cheque of INR 25 Lakh to Harbhajan which bounced due to insufficient funds after which the senior spinner decided to file a complaint against him during his recent visit to Chennai. The entire issue came to light after the businessman filed an anticipatory bail in the Madras High Court.
Meanwhile, two-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings faced a major setback after Harbhajan, who has been with the franchise for past two years, decided to pull out of IPL 2020 due to 'personal reasons'.
"Dear Friends, I will not be playing IPL this year due to personal reasons. These are difficult times and I would expect some privacy as I spend time with my family. @ChennaiIPLCSK management has been extremely supportive and I wish them a great IPL Stay safe and Jai Hind," Harbhajan said in a tweet.
The 13th edition of the IPL starts on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the tournament opener will be played between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians.
