The latest buzz around the Indian cricket circuit is that Jonty Rhodes could be Team India's new fielding coach. While there is no official confirmation as yet, the same has been claimed as per a media report which also claims that even though the former South Africa cricketer has not received a formal approach, his happens to be one of the names doing the rounds.

Jonty Rhodes Had Applied For Position Of India's Fielding Coach In 2019

Notably, Rhodes had applied for the position of India's fielding coach in 2019. However, on that occasion he had failed to make the shortlist with R Sridhar being reppointed as the team's fielding coach with the then head coach Ravi Shastri wanting to retain his services. With the head coach usually taking the call for who should be picked for the support staff, it would be interesting to see if Gambhir has any objections in Rhodes being the fielding coach.

An earlier report had categorically mentioned that Gambhir had given the nod to be India's head coach only on the condition that he is allowed to pick his support staff. Whether or not Rhodes' is in his plans, is not known.
