Mumbai: Star India and Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah may be out of action for the near future but the good news surrounding him is that the he is currently "pain free." Bumrah, who has already been ruled out of the entire IPL 2023 with some reports claim ruling him out of the ICC World Test Championship final, has started his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore after a surgery on his lower back in New Zealand.

The development has been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as per a report carried by news agency PTI.

The BCCI also gave an update on Shreyas Iyer and said the batter would undergo surgery for his lower back issue next week.

Out of action since September 2022, Bumrah missed the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup and it remains to be seen if he will be fit for India's World Test Championship final (2021-23) against Australia at The Oval in two months' time, even though earlier reports have already suggested that he may not be rushed into Playing 11, given the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup set to happen later this year.

"Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand on his lower back, which was successful and he remains pain-free," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.

"The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly, Bumrah has commenced his rehab management at the NCA in Bengaluru from Friday."

As for Shreyas Iyer, who is the regular skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders but missed the ongoing tournament to treat his lower back issue, will go under the knife next week.

"He will remain under the surgeon's care for two weeks and will return to the NCA after that for rehabilitation," the statement added.

Bumrah's last appearance came in a T20I against Australia in September 2022 while Iyer was part of the playing 11 in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy before he complained of pain and could not participate in the remaining match.
