Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan turned 26 years old on July 18 (Thursday) and celebrated it in a religious way. Kishan celebrated his 26th birthday by visiting the Shree Samadhi Mandir in Shirdi, Maharashtra. He took to his social media handle and uploaded a picture of himself seeking the blessings of Sai Baba on his birthday. Kishan was last associated with the Indian cricket team in December, last year during India’s tour of South Africa, where he requested a break midway through the series.

It's been a while since Kishan last represented the Indian team. His last international appearance was in the five-match T20I series against Australia in November, where he scored a fifty. After requesting a break from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he hasn't received a call-up since.

BCCI To Announce India Squad For Sri Lanka

Interestingly, on Kishan's birthday, the BCCI are expected to announce the Indian squad for the upcoming India vs Sri Lanka T20I and ODI series, in which a few of the senior India players are not expected to feature, opening the gates for the younger players.

After requesting a break from cricket, Kishan also opted out of the Ranji Trophy matches for Jharkhand after which the then head coach of Indian team, Rahul Dravid, made it clear that he needed to play domestic cricket to be eligible for selection in the Indian team.

Kishan was ultimately left out of the annual contract list released by the BCCI. His IPL performance wasn't impressive either, accumulating 320 runs in 14 matches at an average of 22.86 and a strike rate of 148.84.

With many senior players expected to be rested for India's tour of Sri Lanka, it remains uncertain whether the 26-year-old will receive a call-up from the BCCI.
