Ireland’s Sean Terry announces retirement from cricket at 26

Ireland’s top-order batsman Sean Terry has announced his retirement from all forms of the game at the age of 26 on Tuesday.

Ireland’s top-order batsman Sean Terry has announced his retirement from all forms of the game at the age of 26 on Tuesday.

Son of former English batsman Paul Terry, Sean has represented Western Australia at the Under-19 level and eventually played for Hampshire and Northamptonshire. He then represented Ireland in five ODIs and a T20.

Terry’s announcement comes as a shock for everyone and he has decided to “start a new chapter” in his life.

"It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to call time on my cricketing journey. Playing cricket for Ireland was undoubtedly the proudest moment of my life and something that I will always cherish," said Sean Terry.

Ireland Cricket’s performance director Richard Holdsworth feels disappointed on Terry’s decision.

"We thought he had adapted well to the Irish set-up but, equally, we respect his decision, difficult as it must have been, and we wish him all the best with the next stage of his career outside of cricket."

Terry appeared in 19 first class matches and scored 713 runs which included 7 half-centuries. He has even scored 3 half-centuries from 21 A-List appearances and also been part of seven T20s.
