New Delhi: Wridhiman Saha became the first wicket-keeper to score a double hundred in Irani Cup as he led Rest of India to victory against Gujarat on Tuesday.
The Rest of India claimed victory with six wickets remaining, the magnificient duo managed 113 runs on final without giving up their wickets.
The 32-year-old stitched 316 run stand with Cheteshwar Pujara while chasing a mammoth 379 runs. Saha and Pujara got together when their side was struggling 63/4 and managed to snatch the trophy from the jaws of defeat
Saha, also becomes the first batsman to score a double ton in 4th innings in Irani Cup.
Pujara, who had top-scored with 86 in Rest’s first innings total of 226 was at the other end on 116s, by batting in his customary calm and collected fashion during their chase of 379.
15 of the last 19 Irani Cups have been won by the Rest of India. Karnataka and Railways are the only Ranji champions to win Irani Cup and both of them have won it twice.
