Australia's frontline pacer Pat Cummins set the 2020 Indian Premier League players auction held in Kolkata on fire after becoming the most expensive overseas played to be bought by a team over all editions of the auction.
Cummins was snapped up at a whopping price of Rs 15.5 crores by Kolkata Knightriders, breaking Ben Stokes' record for the most expensive foreign player at IPL auctions. Stokes fetched an amount of Rs 14 crores in the 2017 auction.
Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore fiercely bid for the 26-year-old seamer, who is widely considered as one of the leading pace bowlers in the world. Yuvraj Singh’s bid Rs 16 crore by Delhi Daredevils is still the highest-ever bid in the auctions.
Pat Cummins Australian team mates Aaron Finch and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell also fetched high prices in the initial rounds of the auction. Maxwell who had his base price set at Rs 2 crores was snapped up by , who had a base price of INR 2 crores was bought by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) after a fierce bidding war with Delhi capitals. Meanwhile Aussie T20 skipper Aaron Finch was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 4.4 crores and hard hitting opener Chris Lynn was picked up by Mumbai Indians at his base price of Rs 2 crore.
