IPL 2022 Date: IPL's 15th Season Likely To Commence From April 2 2022 - Report

IPL 2022 Date: Unlike the previous IPL structure where a total of 60 games were played, this time, the teams will play 74 matches in all.

IPL 2022: The Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) is planning to begin the Indian Premier League 2022 on 2 April, reported Cricbuzz. This time, the tournament would be played between ten teams, against the traditional eight teams. The Cricbuzz report said that the fixtures of the tourbnament have not yet been finalised but the first match of the tournament will be played in Chennai.

As Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the current IPL champs, the first match would be played on their home ground, as per the IPL tradition. The BCCI announced two new teams - Lucknow and Ahmedabad - for the upcoming edition of the IPL on 25 October, 2021. 

Unlike the previous IPL structure where a total of 60 games were played, this time, the teams will play 74 matches in all. Also, the report says that the tournament would go on for more than 60 days, thus, the final might be played in the first week of June. 

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, in his recent speech, announced that the IPL will be returning to India in 2022. "The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like," the BCCI secretary had said at the function," said the BCCI secretary at a function. 

BCCI is estimated to have a profit of around Rs 5,000 crore with two new teams joining the IPL.
