The thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will commence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on last year's finalist Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a blockbuster tournament opener in Abu Dhabi on September 19.


Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who have won the Indian Premier League twice in 2012 and 2014 will get their campaign underway against 4-time champions Mumbai Indians at Abu Dhabi on 23rd September. After playing their first two encounters against Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Abu Dhabi, KKR will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their third match at Dubai on September 30th.

KKR would look to improve upon their performance since last edition which saw them finish fifth in the points table in the round robin stage and miss out on a play off spot.

KKR will be lead by wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik for a third season in a row.The 2-time champions have a new look to them with some major signings at the 2020 IPL auction held in Kolkata in December.

Australian speedster Pat Cummins was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping Rs 15.50 crore, becoming the most expensive buy in the IPL auction.Meanwhile, KKR also snapped up English skipper Eoin Morgan for Rs 5.25 crore and Tom Banton to bolster their batting for the upcoming season.

The team will once again look towards their ever dependable West Indian imports in Andre Russell and Sunil Narine to deliver the goods with both the willow and red cherry.

KKR has a good mix of experienced and young campaigners in Shubman Gill, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagakotti who would look to use the IPL platform to showcase their talent and pedigree.
