Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered their opening win in the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League as they defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 15 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday (September 30).


Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad's win came at the back of an all rounder effort which saw them outplay their opponents Delhi Capitals in all facets of the game.

Sunrisers Hyderabad moved to the sixth spot in the points table courtesy their first win off the season. They had lost their first two matches to Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Jonny Bairstow, David Warner and Kane Williamson Spearhead The Batting Charge

Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a challenging 162-run total riding high on a well complied half ton by Jonny Bairstow (53)  and skipper David Warner who scored a quick-fire 33-ball 45 .

Kane Williamson provided the late impetus to the innings with a blistering 41-run knock off just 26 deliveries. Abdul Samand from Jammu and Kashmir, who made his IPL debut impressed with a brief cameo of 12 off  just 7 deliveries.

Rashid Khan shines with the ball taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs

Chasing a competitive 163-run target Delhi Capitals lost Prithvi Shaw early to Bhuvneshwar Kumar but made a solid start in the powerplay with opener Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Shreyas Iyer fending off a probing new ball spell by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed.

Afghan leg spinner Rashid Khan then cast a web around the Delhi batsman by dismissing Shreyas Iyer in his very first over and followed it up with the wicket of the well set Shikhar Dhawan.


Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer stitched a partnership but failed to take the attack to the Delhi spinners. Pant was scalped by Rashid Khan while Hetmyer was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

With the run rate soaring to almost 12 an over in the last five, Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled well in the death to dismiss Marcus Stoinis and Axar Patel and restrict Delhi to 147-7
