The opening week of the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which began on September 19 in the UAE is over with seven engrossing encounters between the eight teams which are vying for the coveted IPL title in the United Arab Emirates.


The tournament got off to a blazing start with Chennai Super Kings defeating defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener played out at Abu Dhabi. While the first few games saw some nerve wrecking close finishes between MI and CSK, DC and KXIP; the week ending match ups were one sided with MI's massive win over KKR, KXIP thumping RCB  and DC trouncing CSK.

While Delhi Capitals and Kings Eleven Punjab are placed at the top of the table, defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have blown hot and cold in the initial stages of the league

So here is a look at how are the eight teams placed after the opening week in IPL 2020

1. Delhi Capitals (DC)

Delhi Capitals registered their second win on the trot in the ongoing thirteenth season of the IPL after they defeating Chennai Super Kings in Game 7 of the IPL played at Dubai on Saturday.

Delhi Capitals leapfrogged to move right to the top of the table and secure the Numero Uno spot with 4 points in the kitty. Capitals Delhi had beaten Kings Eleven Punjab in their opening encounter and followed it up with a massive 44-run win over CSK.

2. Kings Eleven Punjab (KXIP)

Kings Eleven Punjab are at the second spot behind Delhi Capitals with a win and loss in their two encounters so far. While KXIP lost their opener to DC in a Super Over encounter, they came back strongly to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore.

3. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Defending champions Mumbai Indians occupy the third spot with a mixed bag of results in their two games. Mumbai came back strongly to beat Kolkata Knight Riders by after losing their first game against Chennai Super Kings

4. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Rajasthan Royals head the middle of the table courtesy their solitary win over Chennai Super Kings on the back on whirlwind knocks by Sanju Samson and Steve Smith.

5. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

3-time champions CSK haven't started well in the league as they suffered back to back losses against Rajasthan Royal and Delhi Capitals. CSK began the tournament on a winning note against Mumbai Indians in their season opener.

6. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

Royal Challengers Bangalore have been up and down in the initial stages of the IPL. While the Virat Kohli-led RCB beat SRH in their tournament opener, they lost their next game to KXIP by a massive 97-run margin.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) occupy the last two spots in the points table with losses against Royal  Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians respectively
