'Incredibly Selfless' Eoin Morgan Hails Dinesh Karthik's Decision To Step Down As KKR Skipper In IPL 2020
Karthik's decision to step down as KKR skipper was lauded by the new skipper Eoin Morgan as 'selfless' as the English T20 skipper admired the Indian wicket-keeper batsman for placing the interest of the team ahead of him.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a new skipper at the half way stage in the ongoing thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Eoin Morgan replaced Dinesh Karthik as the captain for the remainder of the tournament in United Arab Emirates.
Karthik's stepping down as KKR skipper left many fans, critics and observers and even the franchise CEO baffled as the franchise fared quite well in the first half of the tournament, winning four of its seven games.
Morgan's first game as KKR skipper ended in a loss as defending champions Mumbai Indians handed them a 8-wicket hammering at Abu Dhabi.
Karthik's decision to step down as KKR skipper was lauded by the new skipper Eoin Morgan as 'selfless' as the English T20 skipper admired the Indian wicket-keeper batsman for placing the interest of the team ahead of him. Morgan added that Karthik decision was also triggered by the fact that he needed to spend more time on his batting as he has been woefully out of form with the willow
At the coin toss, versus Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday evening, Morgan gave his take on on Karthik's sudden resignation and stated, "DK informed yesterday that he would like to step back and focus on his batting as he feels that's the best option for the team. It's incredibly selfless and it also shows a lot of courage from him to do that, putting the team first ahead of him being skipper. I'm delighted to continue the leadership role within the side, obviously captain and not vice-captain now, but hopefully continue to work alongside our players."
He further opined, "We are only halfway through the tournament, we have showed some potential, haven't quite achieved majority of it yet but tonight will be another good test and hopefully we'll be up to it. I have continued to be myself, within any good side around the world, you have to have a number of leaders within the change room. I think we have them in abundance," added the swashbuckling left-hander.
