New Delhi: Struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore were jolted further as AB de Villiers announced that will not be able to take the field against Gujarat Lions, hours before the start of play.

The former South Africa captain took to twitter to reveal the news.

“Disappointed to be missing the match tonight for RCB, due to injury. Good luck to Virat Kohli and the team. Let’s go RCB,” wrote De Villiers.

De Villiers was sidelined from the first couple of games of Royal Challengers Bangalore due to a back injury. He returned to action with a swashbuckling half century against Kings XI Punjab but has not really managed to steer his side to victory, which is languishing at the bottom of the table with just a solitary win after 5 matches.

The injury to De Villiers will open the doors for Chris Gayle, who has been swapping places with Shane Watson.

Desperate for a win, RCB will face Gujarat Lions, who are placed one place above the runner ups at No. 7 in the IPL points table.
