India Women Vs New Zealand Women 2nd ODI | As It Happened

Sophie Devine won the coin toss and elected to bat first, as India Women and New Zealand Women were playing the 2nd ODI at the same venue as that of 1st ODI. Side batting first received majority of the help from the pitch (as seen in the 1st ODI), and the Kiwi openers ensured they get their side off to a flier.

Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer put up an 87-run stand for the first wicket, before the latter's departure at the hands of Deepti Sharma. The wicket marked the top-order collapse of New Zealand Women, as Lauren Down, Brooke Halliday failed to provide Suzie Bates much-needed resistance on the other side of wicket.

The Kiwis were saved by a brilliant 82-run partnership between Sophie Devine and Maddy Green, as the New Zealand Women captain notched up a vital knock of 79 off 86, and with that, the White Ferns finished their innings at 259/9.

Radha Yadav was the star of the Indian team during the first innings, as she managed to pick up 4 wickets, alongside grabbing a pair of world-class catches.

The hosts never looked like competing with the same intensity and rhythm, as they were dealt with early blows in the form of Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Yastika Bhatia.

Reeling at 26/3, a small partnership from Jemimah Rodrigues and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur lasted merely 38 runs, as India kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, and were restricted to 108/8, before Radha Yadav salvaged some pride for India Women by scoring a vital 48 alongside Saima Thakor’s 29, as the duo managed to avoid a three-digit-figure of defeat for them against the Kiwis.
