Suryakumar Yadav, arguably the best T20I Indian batter in modern-day cricket, finally got the much-awaited opportunity to feature in India XI in 50-overs format during India vs West Indies One-Day-International series. In the recently-concluded IND vs WI 2nd ODI in Barbados, Yadav was positioned to bat at important number three position as senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were rested for the game. Sadly, Suryakumar returned back to the pavilion after scoring mere 24 runs. In Ind vs WI 1st ODI, Suryakumar got LBW out for 19 runs off 25 deliveries at the same venue.

Suryakumar Yadav has now gone 17 innings without a fifty in ODIs. While discussing his prolonged lean patch in 50-overs format, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer admitted that time has almost run out for the batter, telling ESPNcricinfo:
"I think he’ll get one more opportunity in the third ODI, and that’s probably it. Then KL (Rahul) and Shreyas Iyer might come in, and he’ll find it difficult to get into the side.
"The way he bats, he takes very high-risk options. He looks to hit boundaries; sometimes that’s what makes him lose his wicket."
Jaffer feels Yadav needs to stop playing risky cricket and develop patience while batting in ODIs.
"In the 50-over format, you need to take the game deep. That’s what Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and even Shikhar Dhawan did. It’s his nature to take risky options.
"He needs to change that in this format. He can’t keep looking to hit boundaries every second-third ball. We see him do that time and again - getting a start and throwing his wicket away."
Suryakumar Yadav has so far played 25 ODIs for team India, scoring 476 runs at a below-par average of 23.80.
