India vs West Indies Highlights: A magical spell from veteran Ravichandran Ashwin and unbeaten ton from debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal guided India to an emphatic win over West Indies in 1st Test.
Team India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match India vs West Indies Test series by defeating West Indies in the opening Test by an innings and 141 runs on Saturday (July 15) at Windsor Park in Dominica. On the third day, India declared their first innings on 421 runs. In reply, West Indies were bowled out for only 130 runs in their second innings and India won the Test with an innings and 141 runs.
The Indian bowlers are on a roll, constantly tormenting West Indies' batters. Both Ashwin and Jadeja are unleashing fire with the ball as the Windies batters look clueless.
Ashwin took the wicket of Brathwaite with Rahane taking a good catch at the end. He dismissed Brathwaite for the second time in this game with a length delivery.
The Indian team have declared after gaining a 271 runs lead. It was Ishan Kishan who was batting and has taken 17 balls but was not off the mark. The moment he scored his first run on the 20th ball, Rohit asked him to come back and declared the innings with India at 421/5.
Cornwall got the wicket of Kohli. It's a huge wicket for the West Indies. Kohli was shocked to see the extra bounce that Cornwall got as he looked to play it on the leg side but it went straight to leg slip and a clean catch by Athanaze did the rest.
Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are at the crease and are looking to form a stand. It's a lunch break now and India stands at 400/4.
Roach cleaned up Rahane and Blackwood did the rest by taking an easy catch. Roach came up with a full-length delivery and Rahane tried to drive the ball but miscued it completely, hitting the ball straight to the waiting cover fielder.
Alzarri Joseph took the wicket of Jaiswal and a catch by Joshua Da Silva did the rest. It was an outside off-delivery and Jaiswal wanted to drive it through the covers but ended up edging it to the keeper.
Yashasvi Jaiswal pulled away a length delivery towards deep backward square leg for a single and reached 150 runs. What a debut for this guy!!
Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal started the proceedings on Day 3. Both batters will be looking to extend their side's lead over West Indies.

The Indian team finished Day 2 of the first Test vs West Indies in a commanding position, concluding at 312/2 with debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal batting on 143 and skipper Rohit Sharma scoring 103 on Thursday. Post getting a century, Jaiswal also became the seventeenth Indian batsman to score a hundred on Test debut. He also became the fourteenth Indian batter to get to the three figures mark in his debut innings in the Red ball format. Earlier, West Indies were restricted to just 150 runs in their first innings after winning the toss and electing to bat first against Rohit Sharma's side.
India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked his 33rd five-wicket haul and his colleague Ravindra Jadeja was also impressive as he took 3 wickets for 26 runs in his 14 overs of spell. Pacers Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur picked up a wicket each. Playing his first match for West Indies, Alick Athanaze starred with the bat by scoring 47 runs before he got dismissed by Ashwin.
The Caribbean nation has never defeated India in a Test series for the last 21 years and under the leadership of Kraigg Brathwaite will look to bounce back after they failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023 which will take place later this year.
