Team India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match India vs West Indies Test series by defeating West Indies in the opening Test by an innings and 141 runs on Saturday (July 15) at Windsor Park in Dominica. On the third day, India declared their first innings on 421 runs. In reply, West Indies were bowled out for only 130 runs in their second innings and India won the Test with an innings and 141 runs.

The Indian bowlers are on a roll, constantly tormenting West Indies' batters. Both Ashwin and Jadeja are unleashing fire with the ball as the Windies batters look clueless.

Ashwin took the wicket of Brathwaite with Rahane taking a good catch at the end. He dismissed Brathwaite for the second time in this game with a length delivery.

Cornwall got the wicket of Kohli. It's a huge wicket for the West Indies. Kohli was shocked to see the extra bounce that Cornwall got as he looked to play it on the leg side but it went straight to leg slip and a clean catch by Athanaze did the rest.

Roach cleaned up Rahane and Blackwood did the rest by taking an easy catch. Roach came up with a full-length delivery and Rahane tried to drive the ball but miscued it completely, hitting the ball straight to the waiting cover fielder.

Background

The Indian team finished Day 2 of the first Test vs West Indies in a commanding position, concluding at 312/2 with debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal batting on 143 and skipper Rohit Sharma scoring 103 on Thursday. Post getting a century, Jaiswal also became the seventeenth Indian batsman to score a hundred on Test debut. He also became the fourteenth Indian batter to get to the three figures mark in his debut innings in the Red ball format. Earlier, West Indies were restricted to just 150 runs in their first innings after winning the toss and electing to bat first against Rohit Sharma's side.


India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked his 33rd five-wicket haul and his colleague Ravindra Jadeja was also impressive as he took 3 wickets for 26 runs in his 14 overs of spell. Pacers Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur picked up a wicket each. Playing his first match for West Indies, Alick Athanaze starred with the bat by scoring 47 runs before he got dismissed by Ashwin.


The Caribbean nation has never defeated India in a Test series for the last 21 years and under the leadership of Kraigg Brathwaite will look to bounce back after they failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023 which will take place later this year.
