VIRAT KOHLI is the Man of the Match: “It wasn’t an easy wicket to bat, I wasn’t happy with myself in the last game, where I went too hard at the ball, I had to respect the conditions, I made mistakes in the last innings but I dug in this time … I would like to congratulate Mohammad Amir for the way he bowled, I actually congratulated him while he was bowling. It was amazing to play such a spell. Counterattacking is the game I play, that’s why I bat at no.3 but sometimes you have to respect the conditions and play that way. It is very important to be able to change your shot at the last moment in such conditions … you need to be switched on mentally, stay calm and relaxed.”

MS Dhoni: “We are a team that loves to play aggressive cricket but this pushes us to respect the conditions which will be good going into the WT20. I’m glad we restricted them to 85 runs, 100 or 110 runs and the game was on. The fast bowlers did well but even after that we took wickets at regular intervals which is crucial to stop runs in this format … We have to be switched on in the field, that is one department where you can guarantee performance, one run out can take the game away from the opposition.”

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi: “We have played so much cricket, we should have read the pitch, we did not play according to the pitch, if we lose 4-5 batsmen in the first six overs we can’t score 140 … We had to read the situation, Kohli was an example, and Yuvi …. if we had survived the fast bowlers there wasn’t much turn on the pitch for their spinners ..”

Yuvraj Singh: “It was tough, the Pakistan bowlers bowled quick, not easy to bat, Virat batted outstandingly and we bowled really well. It was a situation where you had to fight it out and I was happy to spend some time out there. Hopefully next game I will hit the ball better. I stuck out there and did not give my wicket away.”

Virat Kohli once again lived up to the his image here steering India to an important win against arch-rivals Pakistan. Though he couldn’t take India past the target as he fell just before the line but his 49-run knock ensured that India beat Pakistan by 5 wickets with 27 balls to spare. It was a small chase but Mohammad Amir’s sensational spell made it difficult for India as he removed Top-3 of Indian batting line-up for just 8 runs. Earlier, bowlers made sure that India don’t have to chase a big target on such a bowling friendly pitch. Ashish Nehra, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja all bowled well.

India innings

  • FOUR! and India have won the match by 5 wickets.

  • 15 overs: Good over for Pakistan but it was too late. India 80/5 (4 runs required from 30 balls).

  • WICKET! Hardik Pandya had no clue about that. He is gone for DUCK. Mohammad Sami got his second wicket in the over. Pandya flashed at a good length ball just outside off and edged straight to first slip. Hardik Pandya c Mohammad Hafeez b Mohammad Sami 0  (1m 2b 0x4 0x6).

  • WICKET! Oh, Virat Kohli missed his half-century. He deserved it. He played so well today. There was a thick edge but umpire couldn’t see or hear it and raise the finger. Virat Kohli lbw b Mohammad Sami 49 (71m 51b 7×4 0x6).

  • 14 overs: Another Virat Kohli sublime drive through covers to collect a FOUR. He is batting superbly here. Seven runs off it. India 76/3 (8 runs required from 36 balls).

  • 13 overs: Mohammad Irfan gave 6 runs in the over. India 69/3 (15 runs required from 42 balls).

  • FREE HIT and Yuvraj again failed to hit a boundary. Just one run off it.

  • 12 overs: Virat Kohli flicked one through mid-wicket to collect a FOUR. Five runs from the over. India 63/3 (21 runs required from 48 balls).

  • 11 overs: Wahab Riaz has come back nicely but he needs to get wickets for Pakistan. India already have one hand on the match. India 58/3 (26 runs required from 54 balls).

  • FREE HIT and Yuvraj Singh couldn’t find a single there.

  • 10 overs: Just three runs from the over and India need exactly that. India 53/3 (31 runs required from 60 balls).

  • 9 overs: A very good over for India. Shahid Afridi saved Wahab Riaz for middle overs but he is proving to be costly. 15 runs came from the over, including 3 FOURS. India 50/3 (34 runs required from 11 overs).

  • 8 overs: Virat Kohli is the man to take India through these troubled waters. And he is playing that role well. India 35/3 (49 runs required from 12 overs).

  • 7 overs: Excellent spell by Mohammad Amir. His figures are 4 overs, 18 runs, 3 wickets. India can breathe easy now. India 29/3 (55 runs required from 13 overs).

  • 6 overs: Just one run off Irfan’s over, that too came from WIDE. With that powerplay is over. India 21/3 (63 runs required from 14 overs).

  • 5 overs: Mohammad Amir is on fire today. He has made the match, which looked one-sided after Pakistan’s batting collapse, interesting. Seven runs from  the over. India 20/3 (64 runs required from 15 overs).

  • 4 overs: Yuvraj Singh was tested by the tall Pakistan bowler Mohammad Irfan. Played a confident shot through covers on the first ball but after that it was all survival. India 13/3 (71 runs required from 16 overs).

  • 3 overs: Another brilliant over by Amir. He gave just 3 runs and got Suresh Raina’s wicket. India off to a bad start. India 9/3 (75 runs required from 17 overs).

  • WICKET! Mohammad Amir is not letting Indian’s breathe easy. He has struck once again. Suresh Raina is out. India lose third wicket. Ball pitched on the middle-off and Raina tried to turn the ball on the leg. The ball took the leading edge and lobbed tamely to Wahab Riaz at mid-on. Suresh Raina c Wahab Riaz b Mohammad Amir 1 (10m 4b 0x4 0x6).

  • 2 overs: Mohammad Sami didn’t trouble Indians that much. Probably Shahid Afridi should have used Wahab Riaz upfront. Four runs from the over and they came easily. India 6/2 (78 runs required from 18 overs).

  • 1 over: Sensational over by Mohammad Amir. He sent both the Indian openers out in the very first over of the innings. India 2 for 2 (82 runs required from 19 overs).

  • WICKET! Ajinkya Rahane goes too. Amir has struck twice in his first over. Another lbw!! Rahane suffered the same fate as Rohit. The ball was slanting across him from over the wicket. Rahane missed and got struck plumb in front. Ajinkya Rahane lbw b Mohammad Amir 0 (5m 1b 0x4 0x6).

  • WICKET! Early blow to India. Rohit Sharma didn’t survive the second appeal. The ball came in and hit him right in front of the wicket. Umpire still took some time but it was beyond any doubt. Rohit Sharma lbw b Mohammad Amir 0 (2m 2b 0x4 0x6).

  • Big appeal on the first ball. Mohammad Amir struck Rohit Sharma on the toe but it was outside off-stump.

  • Players are in. Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma are ready. Mohammad Amir to start for Pakistan.

  • Pakistan have got a potent bowling attack but 83-run target is too low.

Pakistan Innings

  • India have dismissed Pakistan for just 83 runs in 17.3 overs. Superb performance by Indian bowlers. There was help in the pitch and they used it very well. Ashish Nehra and Jasprit Bumrah set the tone with brilliant spells with the new ball. Then Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja took care of the lower order. Indian fielding needs special mention here. Two important run outs pegged Pakistan further back in the match. Quite an immature batting display by Pakistan.

  • WICKET! Pandya has take last Pakistani wicket. Second wicket in three balls in this over. Mohammad Amir's middle stump is uprooted. Mohammad Amir b Pandya 1 (1m 8b 0x4 0x6).

  • WICKET! Pandya gets another wicket. India just one wicket away now. Short of a length ball, rose sharply and Sami had no time or space to play the pull. He hit it high in the air towards deep square leg and Raina took the catch. Mohammad Sami c Raina b Pandya 8 (19m 16b 1x4 0x6).

  • 17 overs: Is Ashwin trying too hard to take a wicket here? He bowled on the wrong line and even wide on the leg side. May be he should try to stick to the line and let Pakistani batsmen make mistakes. Paksitan 83 for 8.

  • 16 overs: Just 1 run from the over and a wicket too. Jadeja is being ruthless here. Pakistan 71 for 8.

  • WICKET! Pakistan's last recognised batsman is out. Poor choice of shot. Sarfraz Ahmed moved towards leg and Jadeja countered the movement by skidding the ball into the right-hander from a good length. He missed the ball and lost his middle stump. Sarfraz Ahmed b Jadeja 25 (29m 24b 3x4 0x6).

  • 15 overs: Sarfraz again managed a boundary in the over. 7 off Ashwin's over. Pakistan 70 for 7.

  • 14 overs: Sarfraz Ahmed is working hard to take Pakistan's score as far as possible. He smartly used Jadeja's pace and glided a bowl to third man boundary to collect a FOUR. Five runs off the over. Pakistan 63 for 7.

  • 13 overs: Ashwin gave just 2 runs. He tried to entice Mohammad Sami with flight but the Pakistani did not try anything foolish. Pakistan 58 for 7.

  • Ravichandran Ashwin gets the ball in 13th over.

  • 12 overs: Jadeja provided a wicket in the over and gave 5 runs. Good over. Pakistan 56 for 7.

  • WICKET! Jadeja strikes in his first over. Wahab tried to sweep the ball that angled into him and missed, that hit the pad right in front, a simple decision for the umpire to make. Wahab Riaz lbw b Jadeja 4 (10m 12b 0x4 0x6).

  • Ravindra Jadeja called in to bowl.

  • 11 overs: Another four-run over. Pandya should be looking for wickets here. Pakistan 51 for 6.

  • 10 overs: Four runs off Yuvraj's second over. Pakistan will be looking to play out full quota of 20 overs now. Runs are not on their minds. Pakistan 47 for 6.

  • 9 overs: Hardik Pandya tested Wahab Riaz with bouncers in the over. Pakistan is virtually out of this match now. They don't have batting to put up a good enough score from here. Pakistan 43 for 6.

  • WICKET! OMG! India has destroyed Pakistan batting here. There last hope, Shahid Afridi, is run out, by a long way. He wanted a second run against India's best fielder Ravindra Jadeja and paid the big price for it. Played the ball through square leg and took a single easily enough, he wanted the second and Jadeja's throw to MS Dhoni was so quick that Afridi found himself yards out despite putting in a full length dive. Shahid Afridi run out 2 (2b 0x4 0x6).

  • WICKET! Yuvraj Singh has struck on the first ball of his spell. He has taken a big wicket. Kamran Akmal goes for 3. Umar Akmal lbw b Yuvraj Singh 3 (4b 0x4 0x6).

  • WICKET! Pakistan is in deep trouble. Shoaib Malik also departs. Hardik Pandya gets him. Shoaib Malik c Dhoni b Pandya 4 (12b 1x4 0x6).

  • 6 overs: The powerplay belonged to India completely. Jasprit Bumrah has given just 8 runs from his 3 overs. Pakistan 32 for 3.

  • WICKET! Virat Kohli has ended Khurram Manzoor's painful stay on the pitch. His direct hit from the covers has provided 3rd wicket to the Indian team. Khurram Manzoor run out 10 (25m 18b 1x4 0x6).

  • 5 overs: Nehra has come back well. Just two runs from the over. There was a huge appeal in the over. MS Dhoni heard something there but Khurram survives as umpire didn't hear anything. Replay shows there was a sound. It looked like the ball took some part of Khurram's gloves. Indian players are disappointed. Pakistan 28 for 2.

  • 4 overs: Another good over by Bumrah. He is difficult to face because of his action. He still gave two boundaries in the over but wickets are more important. Pakistan 26 for 2.

  • WICKET! Jasprit Bumrah gets Sharjeel Khan. Good comeback. Rolled his fingers over the ball, Sharjeel went hard on it, tried to cut it through point region but ended up edging it. Ajinkya Rahane took an easy catch in the slips. Sharjeel Khan c Rahane b Bumrah 7 (5b 1x4 0x6).

  • FOUR! Sharjeel Khan smashes Bumrah through mid-wicket area off the first ball of his new over.

  • 3 overs: It is turning out to be a good over for Pakistan. After struggling for two overs, Pakistan batsmen have got some feel of the middle part of the bat. 13 off the over. Pakistan 18 for 1.

  • FOUR! Khurram Manzoor clear his front leg and whips it over mid-wicket.

  • 2 overs: Maiden! Khurram Manzoor couldn't play a single ball confidently. He is clearly struggling against Bumrah's incoming balls. Pakistan 5 for 1.

  • Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the second over.

  • 1 over: Good successful over by Ashish Nehra to start with. There is a lot of help in the pitch for pacers. Good decision by Dhoni to bowl first. Pakistan 5 for 1.

  • Khurram Manzoor is the new batsman.

  • WICKET! Ashish Nehra has struck. An early wicket for India. Mohammad Hafeez is out caught behind. The ball took off sharply from short of a length, Hafeez stayed in his crease and wafted at it. The extra bounce forced the edge through to MS Dhoni. Mohammad Hafeez c Dhoni b Nehra 4 (4b 1x4 0x6).

  • FOUR off the second ball. Mohammad Hafeez opens Pakistan's account with a boundary.

  • Players are in, we are about to start any time soon. Pakistan openers Sharjeel Khan and Mohammad Hafeez are ready. Ashish Nehra has the ball.

PREVIEW

On a high after a positive start to their Asia Cup campaign, India will aim to keep their winning momentum going when they take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their second Twenty20 International at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here on Saturday.

India defeated hosts Bangladesh by 45 runs in the opener on Wednesday, thanks to Rohit Sharma's flamboyant innings of 83 runs, which was followed by some good bowling performances led by veteran pacer Ashish Nehra.

This is the first this iconic tournament is being played in the Twenty20 format. All the earlier editions were One-Day Internationals (ODI).

Form and history are both on India's side. The 2007 World Twenty20 champions have met Pakistan on six occasions in the shortest format of the game where India have outclassed their neighbours five times, including the unforgettable 2007 World T20 final in Johannesburg which India won by five runs in the last over.

The two teams last met here at the same ground in the 2014 World Twenty20, which India won by seven wickets.

But come Saturday, it will be a fresh start for both the teams as Pakistan will aim to keep aside their poor show against India and hope to register a win in their first match of the 2016 Asia Cup.

The 2009 World T20 winners will depend on their charismatic all-rounder skipper Shahid Afridi to deliver for the side alongside experienced Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik.

But all eyes will be on pacer Mohammad Amir, who made a successful comeback to international cricket recently after being convicted for spot fixing.

On the other hand, India after two back-to-back T20 series wins against Australia and Sri Lanka, are in full flow to knock any opponent out on any given day.

In-form openers Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan will try to give India a good start followed by flamboyant Virat Kohli, who failed against Bangladesh but will be raring to unleash his skills against Pakistan.

The presence of experienced Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, hard-hitting newcomer Hardik Pandya followed by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni make the batting look extremely strong.

In the bowling department, Dhoni will hope his young gun Jasprit Bumrah along with experienced Nehra and spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will continue their good form.
