India vs Australia 2nd ODI Highlights: Team India's star batter Shreyas Iyer made a roaring comeback to the national team as his 105 off 90 balls helped the Men in Blue in setting up their remarkable 99-run win over five-time World Cup winners Australia in IND vs AUS 2nd ODI at Indore's Holkar stadium on Sunday (September 24). Iyer was forced to miss cricketing action for six long months as he had to undergo a back surgery. Batting first, KL Rahul-led India scored 399 for 5 and eventually were adjudged winners by 99 runs (D/L method). India now have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
The third and final ODI match between India and Australia, which will mark the return of stars Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah in playing XI, will take place on Wednesday.
"It was a rollercoaster ride. I've been working so hard the last few months, and I was in a lonely space," Iyer, who was adjudged the player of the match, said at the post-match presentation.
Shreyas Iyer was part of India's Asia Cup squad but he batted in just one match over the course of two weeks. The team management decided to rest him for the remainder of matches due to a back spasm in the middle of the tournament.
"Excited to be back and I am enjoying the atmosphere in the dressing room. I was seeing matches on TV and wanted to be out there.
Shreyas Iyer's mic drop statement on replacing Virat Kohli at number 3 batting position
"My plan was to play in the V and not complicate things. I was batting brilliantly in the nets. I'm happy to bat in any position. Whatever the team requires. Virat (Kohli) is one of the greats, there's no chance of stealing that (number 3) spot from him. I just need to keep scoring wherever (at any position) I bat."
"I had belief in myself. I knew what I was aiming for and glad I was able to execute my plans today," he added.
