IND Vs SL 1st T20I: Ishan Kishan finally ended his poor batting spell as his 89 and Shreyas Iyer's quick-fire 57 helped India to set a winning score of 199 against Sri Lanka on Thursday.
With the win in the 1st ODI, India goes 1-0 up in the series. India defeated Sri Lanka by a big margin of 62 runs and marked their 10th consecutive T20I win.
India's Batting
Team India comes in this match after winning the T20I and ODI series against West Indies. Top-order batting was a concern that was addressed in the 1st T20I against SL.
Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma set up the innings with an opening partnership of 111 runs. As Rohit went back in the pavilion, there was a quiet spell of five overs from 11-16 overs as Iyer and Kishan faced Lankan bowlers who were constantly changing the pace and making it difficult to play shots.
Shreyas Iyer has a slow start of 12 runs in 12 balls, but he ended up with 58 in 27 balls with five 4s and two massive sixes. This only goes to show that Iyer can accelerate any moment after getting set. A quality that we see in batsmen like Virat Kohli. Thus, India ended up with a total of 199.
India's Bowling
Rohit Sharma had the luxury of using seven bowling options. It was a complete team effort. If Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided the early wickets, then Venkatesh Iyer and Yuzi Chahal picked wickets in the middle overs.
Ravindra Jadeja was the only bowler to finish his quota of four overs. Sri Lanka was dismissed for 137/6 in 20 overs.
Ishan Kishan was awarded the man of the match award for his innings of 89 runs.
