New Delhi: Indian batsman Virat Kohli will not be seen playing in the ODI series against South Africa (SA) if sources are to be believed. Kohli has sought a break from BCCI in January for personal reasons. If his demand is accepted, Team India's woes in the ODI series against South Africa could increase.
Earlier on Monday, BCCI informed that Rohit Sharma, the newly appointed ODI captain, was injured and would not play in the Test series against South Africa.
Kohli Wants To Spend Time With Family
As per a Times of India report, Virat Kohli has requested some time off as he wants to spend time with his family in January. This simply means that he will not be able to play in the ODI series.
Rohit Sharma To Take ODI Charge
BCCI recently removed Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy, after Kohli had announced to step down from the T20I captaincy role earlier, after which the Mumbai-based opener Rohit Sharma was appointed as the new captain of the Indian team.
Rohit is to take charge of the ODI team from the South Africa tour but his injury ahead of the Test series poses questions for team India.
BCCI is yet to announce the ODI squad for the South Africa tour. If BCCI grants Virat Kohli a leave it will be interesting to see which player will be included in the team in place of him.
Many young players are currently performing brilliantly in the domestic tournament, Vijay Hazare Trophy. Some of them may be included in the ODI squad for the South Africa tour.
The three-match ODI series against South Africa will be played from January 22.
