The 2023 edition of ICC Men's ODI World Cup will be hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in India. The much-awaited ICC tournament will be played among 10 cricket teams from October 2023 to November 2023. For the first time in the history of ICC Men's ODI World Cup, all matches of the tournament will be played only in India. As per several media reports, ODI World Cup 2023 matches will be played across 13 venues in India but an official confirmation on which stadiums will host these matches is awaited.
According to a report in the Indian Express, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to hand over the hosting of high-octane India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023 match to Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. The world's largest cricket stadium has a seating capacity of 1 lakh spectators, automatically making it a no-brainer choice for IND-PAK World Cup fixture. After the ongoing 2023 season of Indian Premier League (IPL) gets over, BCCI will soon announce the ODI World Cup 2023 schedule.
According to reports, ODI World Cup 2023 will most likely begin from October 5 and the final match of the tournament will be played in November. Nagpur, Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Rajkot, Indore, Bangalore and Dharamshala are reportedly the shortlisted venues for ODI World Cup 2023. All matches of Pakistan in ODI World Cup 2023 might be played in Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata due to security reasons.
Last time India played an ODI match against Pakistan was during the 2019 World Cup. Back then, the Men in Blue defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by 89 runs via Duckworth Lewis rule. Batting first, India scored 336 runs. In reply, Pakistan got all out for 212 runsin 40 overs, chasing a revised target of 302 runs due to rain. Rohit Sharma was adjudged player of the match for his memorable innings of 140 runs for India.
