The second Test match began on Saturday. India won the toss and chose to bat first on a dry and dark Chepauk wicket which is supposedly very fruitful for spinners. The pitch will start deteriorating and it will become extremely difficult to play shots as the Test match progresses. India were in a spot of bother in the first session, when India had lost three wickets in the first session. But Rahane and Rohit came back strong to build up a solid partnership for the fourth wicket. But this incident happened when India’s score was 86/2 and Virat Kohli had just arrived at the crease after losing the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara. As expected, the pitch was turning and Moeen Ali was bowling to Virat.
Ali bowled a flighted off-spinner to Kohli and he was driven on the front foot, the ball turned and found the huge gap between Kohli’s bat and his leg. Virat couldn’t believe his eyes and looked utterly shocked and stood there as if the ball did not go between the bat and the pad. Here is the video of the incident:
Actually Virat thought that the stumps were broken because of wicket-keeper’s gloves. The decision was taken up to the third umpire as Virat was reluctant to leave the pitch. He couldn’t believe that he could get out on a duck when his team needed him the most. The day was salvaged by a big partnership between Rohit and Rahane, but this incident has become a hot-topic on Twitter.
The score after 76 overs was 250/5 with Pant and Ashwin at the crease.
