India vs Bangladesh: Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has no regret over her temperamental outburst during India vs Bangladesh 3rd ODI Bangladesh in Dhaka, last month. ICC punished Harmanpreet for her public outburst by banning her for two matches after the ODI game against Bangladesh. She had smashed the stumps with her bat over the umpire's decision to give her out. Later in the post-match presentation, she called the umpires 'biased and unfair'. Harmanpreet's antics became a hot topic of discussion, with almost everyone calling her actions rather out of bounds. Following the two-match ban, Harmanpreet won't be able to participate in India women team's first two T20I matches at the Hangzhou Asian Games in September-October.
The women's competition in Asian Games 2023 is slated to kickstart on September 19 and end with gold and bronze medal matches on September 26. Due to the ban on her, Harmanpreet can only feature in the gold medal match, if India manages to make it there without her. The women's event will comprise 14 teams.
"I will not say that I regret anything because at the end of the day as a player you want to see that fair things are happening. As a player, you always have the right to express yourself and what you're feeling," she was quoted as saying by The Cricket Paper during the Women's Hundred.
Harmanpreet is playing for Trent Rockets in the tournament.
"I don't think I said anything wrong to any player or any person. I just said what happened on the field. I don't regret anything," she repeated.
Kaur was fined 50 percent of her match fee for the Level 2 offence and received three demerit points on her disciplinary record.
She was found guilty of breaching article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, relating to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision” and for “public criticism” of match officials.
