IND vs BAN: Mahmudullah's Captaincy Resembles To That Of Dhoni, Says Irfan Pathan
Mahmudullah impressed with his leadership skills that broke the jinx against India, enhancing the confidence levels of his teammates
The Bangladesh cricket team went through a rough patch off the field before visiting India. Firstly, the players’ strike sparked a huge controversy and then, the ban on Shakib al Hasan was enough to quash the morale of the unit.
Amid this turmoil, the Bangla Tigers touched down India and entered into the T20I series under the leadership of Mahmudullah Riyad. Things eventually turned positive for the visitors as they registered the first-ever win against the men-in-blue in the shortest format.
The stand-in skipper impressed with his leadership skills that broke the jinx to enhance the confidence levels of his mates.
The series is still alive as the hosts bounced back in Rajkot and levelled the rubber. And ahead of the decider on Sunday, the Mahmudullah has been praised by veteran Indian speedster Irfan Pathan. The left-armer stated that the captaincy of the Bangladesh skipper is a bit similar to that of M.S. Dhoni.
“When you win a match against one of the best teams in the world, it helps in boosting your confidence and Mahmudullah had shown great qualities of a captain including the changes he made during the match,” said Pathan.
“There was a hint of Dhoni in his captaincy as he also used part-time bowlers after the power play which is a strategy often used by Dhoni,” he added.
India and Bangladesh will lock horns in the series-deciding final T20I at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur on Sunday before participating in the two-Test series beginning November 14.
