IND vs AUS 1st ODI Highlights: Keep refreshing this page to get the latest updates from the series opener at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
The collective team effort from the Indian team helped them beat Australia by 5 wickets. Gill, Gaikwad, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav batted well, ensuring their side's facile win.
Suryakumar Yadav reached his half-century. What a man, what a comeback. After facing a lot of criticisms, the Mumbai based batter proved that he can bat in any given format.
Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul are looking to finish the game now as India needs just 65 runs.
Zampa trapped big fish as he removed Shubman Gill. It was a quick flipper from the wrist spinner Zampa and Gill was clueless. This is a huge wicket as the in-form batter is castled.
Finally, some sight of relief for Australia as Zampa took the wicket of Gaikwad. Gill's partner was caught LBW right in front of the stumps as he was looking to sweep the ball.
Gaikwad also brought up his fifty. Classy innings from a classy batter as not even once it looked like the opener batter is playing only his third ODI game for India.
Fifty for Shubman Gill. The way Gill has batted in this game looks like he has been waiting for this day only. With each and every game, Gill is proving why he is rated so highly.
Gill and Gaikwad are looking to make a big partnership here. Both batters are playing well, punishing bad deliveries constantly.
Just like Shubman, Gaikwad has now started dealing in boundaries. The duo have stitched a solid stand in the chase of 277. Aussie bowlers are eyeing for a breakthrough! India are 43/0 after 7.3 overs.
What a shot by Shubman Gill. It was a short delivery from Stoinis and crowd favorite Gill picked it up quickly and sent the ball into the stands. That was some lovely sound off the bat. Gill you beauty!! IND 31/0 (3.5)
Gaikwad and Shubman Gill have started proceedings for India. Cummins bowled the first over.
Mohammed Shami's brilliant bowling restricted Australia to 276 runs after 50 overs. Australian batters were clueless playing against Shami especially Steve Smith who was cleaned up by the pacer.
What a dream spell by Shami. The Indian pacer took a five-wicket haul after he removed Abbott. Australia have now lost their ninth wicket.
Another wicket goes down and this time it was Bumrah who did the damage. It was Josh Inglis who became Bumrah's prey and got tricked on a slower delivery by the Indian bowler. Shreyas Iyer grabbed an easy catch at the end.
Shami cleaned up Stoinis on a full-length delivery that did not bounce much. Stoinis wanted to play a big slog shot across the line but then completely missed it and had to suffer.
Josh Inglis came up with a boundary and then followed it up with a flat-six against Shardul Thakur. Inglis made it clear that since the slogovers are coming, he would be focusing on hitting maximums now.
Indian fielders put up a stellar show as they came up with a breakthrough. Green departed after an avoidable mix-up with Inglis, a huge wicket for India.
Groundsmen have stepped on the ground with covers as it's started drizzling.
Ashwin came with a huge breakthrough as he snared Labuschagne. It was a tossed-up delivery that came in sharp towards Labuschagne. The Australia batter wanted to play the reverse sweep but then ended up hitting towards Rahul's pad and then ricocheted onto the stumps.
Good start for India. They have been disciplined with their line and lengths and haven't given away easy runs. After 7 overs, Australia are 27/1.
Jasprit Bumrah with the new ball from the other end. Steve Smith, David Warner out in the middle for Australia at the moment.
WICKET! India strike in the first over and it's Mohammed Shami who gets the wicket with a superb ball that was shaping away from the right-hander. Edged and taken at first slip. Australia- 4/1 in 0.4 overs. Mitchell Marsh departs for 4.

Background
IND vs AUS 1st ODI Score LIVE: The ICC Men's World Cup is just around the corner with the first match set to be played on October 5. Hosts India will begin their campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. However, before that, they have some unfinished business. India and Australia are set to lock horns in a three-match ODI series beginning on September 22 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
The three matches are set to be played in six days at three different venues and hence teams are likely to strike a balance beteen resting their players to manage their workload as well as fine tuning their preparations for the marquee event. Teams will also look to avoid unncessary injuries especially with Australia having already suffered the blow of Travis Head and India still unsure about Axar Patel's participation in the World Cup. Ravichandran Ashwin is likely to get all three games after having been recalled into the ODI setup for the first time since January 2022.
As far as recent form is concerned, while India are off the back of a near-perfect Asia Cup in the final of which they registered a record win, bowling Sri Lanka out for 50 before chasing it down in 6.1 overs. On the other hand, Australia had taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match series against South Africa but went on to lose three on the trot to concede the series 3-2.
Having said that, India would be without the services of the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav for the first two matches all of whom had registred solid performances in the continental tournament with Rohit and Kohli having bagged a Player of the Match performance each and Kuldeeo taking the Player of the Tournament prize.
For Australia, Pat Cummins, Steven Smith and Mitchell Starc are all back with Smith and Cummins likely to play all the three matches of this series. Starc could be rested and there is no clarity on Maxwell who is set to arrive in India on Friday. All in all, this promises to be an exciting series especially with both these teams prime contenders to lift the World Cup later this year.
