Indian cricket team's young sensational fast bowler Mohammad Siraj, who lost his father a few days back, wants to fulfill his dream. Siraj said on Monday that his father wanted him to play for the national team and do well in the series against Australia. Siraj told that his father wanted him to make the team proud with his performance. The speedster said that he wants to win the series against Australia for his father. Team India will start their 54-day Australia with a one-day match from 27 November.


On Friday, Siraj's 53-year-old father Mohammad Gaus breathed his last in Hyderabad. He was battling lung disease and was undergoing treatment for it. Siraj's father, who worked as an auto driver, played a key role in Siraj's success as despite limited resources, he supported his son's ambitions.

"It is a very big loss for me because he was my biggest supporter. My father's wish was to see me play for India and make the nation proud. Now, all I want to do is fulfill my father's dream," Siraj told bcci.tv on Monday.


"Even though my father is no more in this world, he is still with me in my heart. I talked to my mother who reminded me of my father's dream and encouraged me to perform well for Team India," he said.

26-year-old Siraj told that in his days of grief the whole Indian team is standing with him like a family. Captain Virat Kohli asked him to keep his spirits high and focus on his father's dream. Siraj also plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore, captained by Kohli in the IPL.


"My team members have supported me like a family in this situation. Virat [Kohli] bhai encouraged me and told me to stay strong and fulfill my father's dream," Siraj said.

Siraj, who comes from Toli Chowki, a small township in Hyderabad, said, "I know that father has worked hard to fulfill my dream. He used to ride a rickshaw. The news of his death is a big shock to me. I lost the biggest support of my life."

Siraj took 41 wickets in the 2016–17 Ranji season. After this he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL for 2.6 million rupees. Siraj played 35 matches in the league, taking 39 wickets. He took 3 wickets in 3 T20s for Team India. Siraj also played an ODI, in which he remained wicketless.

The second Test will be played in Melbourne from 26 to 30 December. The third Test will take place in Sydney from 7 to 11 January and the fourth Test in Brisbane from 15–19 January.
