Team India has announced a 12-member squad for the first ODI against West Indies, scheduled to be played on Sunday in Guwahati. Young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is set to make his ODI debut following his consistent performance with the bat in the recently concluded 2-match Test series. However, he has been selected in the side only for the batsman role.
Team’s middle order has already missed Kedar Jadhav who suffered a major side strain in the Asia Cup final match against Bangladesh. And with Pant’s entry, Manish Pandey has been benched for the first game.
Shardul’s unavailability has made way for Umesh Yadav who recently jolted the West Indies batting line-up in the Hyderabad Test with his 10-wicket haul. He will assist Mohammed Shami who has made a comeback in the ODI side after a year’s gap. In addition, young speedster Khaleel Ahmed Ahmed, who impressed with his bowling in the 2 games he played in Asia Cup, has been named as the 12the man.
The spin brigade remains the same which throttled the opponents in the Asia Cup 2018. Jadeja, who made a massive comeback in the limited-overs cricket, has maintained his place in the side along with the wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Here’s the 12-men team for the Guwahati ODI:
Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (C), Ambati Rayudu, Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed.
