The President of India Droupadi Murmu wished India’s women's blind cricket team after they won the gold medal in the IBSA (International Blind Sports Federation) World Games 2023 in Birmingham. India women defeated Australia by nine wickets but then since rain played spoilsport, the winner was finalised using the DLS method on Saturday.

After choosing to bat first, Australia women had a torrid start and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. As a result, they were restricted to just 114/8 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Indian team chased down the revised target of 42, in just 3.3 overs. On the back of this win, the Women in Blue created history and became the first-ever cricket winner at the international multi-sport event.

The Indian President took to her official handle on X (Twitter) to wish the Indian team for their outstanding performance in the tournament.

"Heartiest congratulations to Indian women's team for clinching the gold medal by beating Australia in blind cricket tournament! The nation is proud of you for historic and inspiring performance in the first ever edition of blind cricket in IBSA World Games," President of India tweeted.

Talking about the men’s team, Pakistan beat India in the Men's IBSA World Games finals and secured the gold medal on Saturday. After batting first, India posted a good total of 184 runs but then they failed to defend it as their archrivals registered a dominating eight-wicket to register a historic win. Pakistan chased down the total easily with M Ullah and N Ali's 50-run opening stand in just 27 balls. M Salman was the top scorer for Men in Green, smashing an unbeaten 48 off 25 balls while B Munir collected 41* to help Pakistan win the first-ever title in the competition.
