T20 World Cup: After winning the Man of the Match award for his brilliant knock of 74 in 47 balls against Afghanistan, Rohit Sharma defended his team and said that a couple of bad performances doesn't make a team bad. He also reflected on the performances and hoped that such a display should have come in the earlier matches.
"It didn't happen in two games but that doesn't mean that we have become bad players overnight. If you have two bad games, it doesn't mean that all players are bad, those who are running the team are bad, you reflect and you comeback and that's what we did in this game," Rohit Sharma told the press on Wednesday.
Sharma also put emphasis on playing fearless cricket. "The approach was different. I wish this innings came in the first 2 matches, but it didn't happen. But that can happen when you are on the road for a long time," added Rohit.
Rohit Sharma also went on to speak about the excessive cricket that is being played. He said that such losses come once in a while when a team is playing a lot of cricket.
"You need to ensure that you are fresh in terms of the mental aspect. Maybe that's the reason why we didn't make some good decisions. When you play a lot of cricket, these kinds of things keep happening. You need to get away from the game and freshen up your mind.
"But when you play the World Cup, your full focus should be on the World Cup, you should know what you need to do and what you don't," he said.
Rohit Sharma was a class apart against Afghanistan. India will play Scotland and Namibia next who are relatively easy opponents. India can still make it to the semi-finals given that Afghanistan defeat New Zealand.
Only time will tell if India would be able to qualify or not.
