Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist has strongly criticized a social media page for disseminating ‘fake’ quotes attributed to him. The legendary former cricketer, who recently worked as a broadcaster during the series between Australia and Pakistan down under, found himself falsely accused of criticizing the Men in Green after they were clean-swept by the Pat Cummins-led dominant Australian team in the series.

A Facebook account posted quotes attributing statements to Gilchrist, saying, "Pakistan is the worst Asian team in Australian conditions, what they won here in the last 35 years?" Following the widespread circulation of the post, Gilchrist promptly addressed the situation, providing clarification on X, formerly known as Twitter. He stated, "I never said this. Absolutely fake, made up quotes."

Gilchrist went on to commend Pakistan for putting up a respectable fight against the world champion Australian team in their three-match Test series. Despite the 0-3 series loss under the leadership of Shan Masood, Gilchrist acknowledged Pakistan's excellent performance at times during the series, highlighting that they came close to winning a Test or two against a formidable opponent.

Pakistan Haven't Won A Test In Australia For 28 Years

Pakistan faced a challenging start in the three-match Test series, a part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship, facing a big defeat in the first Test in Perth by 360 runs. Despite the Shan Masood-led side finding themselves in a favourable position to secure victories at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), they faced setbacks in both matches, leading to a comprehensive 3-0 clean sweep in favor of the opposition. Pakistan have not secured a Test match victory in Australia in the 21st century. The last time Pakistan won a Test match in Australia was 28 years ago, during the 1995-96 tour.

Currently, Pakistan are on their tour of New Zealand to face a five-match T20I series against the Kane Williamson-led Blackcaps. The first match of the series took place in Auckland’s Eden Park. The Kiwis scored 226-8 in their 20 overs in the first innings and dismissed the Pakistan team for 180 in 18 overs winning the contest by 46 runs.
