Hyderabad opener Tanmay Agarwal scored the fastest first-class triple century, taking just 147 deliveries against Arunachal Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2023-2024 round four match held at the NexGen Cricket Ground in Hyderabad on January 26, (Friday). This remarkable feat surpassed South Africa’s Marco Marais's record, who scored a triple century in 191 balls for Border against Eastern Province in 2017, making Tanmay's achievement the fastest in the history of first-class cricket.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Hyderabad successfully dismissed Arunachal Pradesh for a mere 172 runs. Subsequently, Hyderabad delivered a remarkable batting performance for the rest of the day, amassing an impressive total of 529/1 within 48 overs before stumps on the first day.

Tanmay Agarwal Shatters Records With Historic Triple Century

The standout performer was Tanmay, who not only made a triple century but also established several records. He surpassed Virender Sehwag's earlier record of 284 runs during the second day of the Brabourne Test against Sri Lanka in 2009. Tanmay achieved a historic feat by becoming the first Indian batsman to score 300 or more runs in a single day of first-class cricket. At the close of play, the 28-year-old left-handed opener remained unbeaten on 323* after facing 160 deliveries. His innings comprised 33 boundaries and 21 sixes, propelling Hyderabad to a formidable total of 529/1 in a mere 48 overs.

He also broke Ishan Kishan's record of registering the most sixes, 14, in an innings of India's first-class cricket history. Tanmay and team captain Rahul Singh added 449 runs for the opening wicket in just 40.2 overs with the latter scoring 185 off just 105 balls.

In addition to all this, Tanmay Agarwal also broke a 39-year-old record held by former Indian captain Ravi Shastri. Tanmay achieved the fastest First-Class double hundred by an Indian, reaching the 200-run mark in just 119 balls. This accomplishment also marked the second-fastest First-Class double century in the history of the sport.
