The Indian team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma has been going through a rough patch as they had a terrible outing in the recently passed WTC 2023 final against Australia. During the summit clash at the Oval in London, team India lost the game against the Kangaroos by 209 runs. Post India’s loss, many cricket pundits have voiced that Rohit Sharma should step down as a skipper but then the change is not likely to take place anytime soon.

Rohit will get another chance soon to prove his worth both as a skipper and batter as the  ICC men's World Cup is approaching. He will be looking to win the trophy and end India’s long wait for an ICC title. The last time India won any ICC title was back in 2013 as they won the  ICC Champions Trophy under the captaincy of the great MS Dhoni.

Since this is one of the most burning issues of Indian cricket, former India great Dilip Vengsarkar also spoke about the same to the Hindustan Times where he said, “The unfortunate part is that the selectors I have seen over the last six-seven years neither have the vision, deep knowledge about the game or cricketing sense. They made Shikhar Dhawan India captain (when tours overlapped and main players were unavailable); it is where you can groom the future captain”.

“You haven’t groomed anybody. You just play as it comes. You talk about the richest cricket board in the world, where is the bench strength? Just having IPL, earning crores of rupees in media rights, it should not be the only achievement”, he added.

Earlier, Australia outplayed the Indian team in the ICC World Test Championship final 2023 by 209 runs at the Oval in London. For India, Ajinkya Rahane was the only batter who had a decent run as he scored 89 runs in the first innings and also reached 5,000 runs in the traditional format in 83 Tests. Asa result, he got a huge jump in the latest ICC Test Rankings as he sealed the 37th spot.
