New Delhi: A day before India embarks on its Champions Trophy journey; Harbhajan Singh has put his weight behind Zaheer Khan to be the bowling coach for Team India.

Known for his clear cut views, Harbhajan believes his one-time teammate and former India fast bowler Zaheer could be the ideal guide Indian bowlers Bhuvneshwar, Shami and Umesh need.

The off-spinner took to twitter to express his opinion.

Zaheer has just concluded his two-year tenure with the Delhi Daredevils and decided to hung his boots from the gentleman’s game once and for all. The three world cup veteran retired from international cricket in October 2015, announcing that he will try and give it back to the game in whichever way possible.

Going by the lines, BCCI had approached Zaheer to be India’s bowling coach earlier in 2016. But the deal did not materialize because of Zaheer’s apparent exorbitant demands.

However, Harbhajan later on removed his tweet for reasons unknown.

The left-arm paceman actively played the role of mentoring his teammates like Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami during the latter part of his career, a role which is now being played by another veteran Ashish Nehra.

The 38-year old fast bowler is one of India’s most successful bowlers with 311 wickets in 92 Tests.
