Guy Whittall, the former international cricket star, who played for Zimbabwe at the highest level of the sport, survived a leopard attack, thanks to his pet dog who came to his rescue. Notably, the ex-cricketer was on a trek in the Humani region when the incident happened as per a report carried by the Daily Mail. It is further being learnt that his dog, Chikara, fought the leopard and was even bitten by the member of the cat family in the process.


The news of the 51-year-old being attacked by the leopard and him surviving the assault was confirmed in a social media post by his wife who also shared images of the same in a post on social media. In some of the images, the former all-rounder batter can be seen in bandages. It is being learnt that he later had to be airlifted to Harare to undergo surgery to treat his wounds.

"He really is one lucky man, first he had the crocodile and now the leopard, he really is the cat with nine lives. He was so fortunate that Chikara was there to help him and get the leopard off him, otherwise who knows how it might have ended," Hannah, his wife was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.


"We are so grateful to him, and Chikara going to get some extra chicken as a treat. He's got to see the vet as he has a few scratches and but he should be okay, he's in better shape than Guy," he added.

Whittal was earlier in the news for surviving a crocodile attack with the animal bizarrely found sleeping under his bed at home. Whittal played 46 Test matches and 147 ODIs for Zimbabwe, playing 2207 and 2705 runs in them respectively. He even 51 and 88 wickets in the red-ball and the white-ball format respectively.
