Suryakumar Yadav has been making headlines because of his poor outing in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia. He registered three successive first-ball ducks against the Kangaroos. In the first two ODIs, the Mumbai-based batter was snared by Mitchell Starc while in the third ODI, he was cleaned up by Ashton Agar. Former cricketers and fans have been constantly commenting on Surya’s poor run.
Cricketer turned commentator Sunil Gavaskar also spoke about the same. He said that he is hopeful that Surya will come back in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, and from there onwards he Will carry the same form for India also.
"He has just got to understand that this can happen to the best of players and it has happened to the best of players. So I think, all he has got to do now is focus; forget these 3 matches and focus on the IPL, get runs over there. Once he gets runs in the IPL, he will come back confident for the next one-day game," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
"Well, he was out first-ball 3 times. It's very difficult to say what is going wrong. Yes, there were two good deliveries that Mitchell Starc bowled in the first 2 matches. Yes, he might have been a little too anxious," he further said.
Earlier, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was also asked about Surya’s torrid run with the bat.
"He (Suryakumar) played only three balls in the series. I don't know how much you can look into it. He got three good balls," Rohit had stated.
Surya also became the sixth Indian batter to score three back-to-back ducks in ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah are on the list already.
