New Delhi: Former SC bar association president and senior advocate Vikas Singh has made the first jump and declared his candidature to contest for the upcoming DDCA president elections next month.
Vikas Singh's decision now puts the spotlight squarely on Rohan Jaitley, son of former DDCA president Arun Jaitley and Shashi Khanna, wife of former BCCI president CK Khanna, in what looks likely to be a three-way contest for the top position.
Both Shashi Khanna and Rohan Jaitley camp refused to reveal their strategy or their decision to formally contest for the posts but according to sources, there have been hectic negotiations happening.
The election dates and procedures are yet to be formally announced and this time it is likely that DDCA will go for a one-week-long voting period to enable its 4000 odd members to vote in this COVID era.
Incidentally, Vikas Singh had also filed nomination for the president post the last term but eventually decided to stand down last minute in favour of Rajat Sharma, who eventually was elected after defeating Madan Lal in a fiercely contested election.
Elections for the post of president, treasurer and four directors were ordered by the Delhi High Court last week to be conducted within the next six weeks.
DDCA has been mired into controversies after Rajat Sharma resigned from the post while Ombudsman and the lower court had declared other office bearers ineligible to continue in office. BCCI, meanwhile, has stopped funds for DDCA after allegations of financial mismanagement.
