Former Mumbai stalwart Amol Muzumdar is leading the race to become the next Indian women’s team coach, as per reports. According to The Indian Express, Amol applied for the role since Ramesh Powar was told to shift his base to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore in December 2022. The BCCI had put out applications for the candidates and also introduced a few updated criteria for their next coach.
Some of them are as follows:
1. No age restriction.
2. Candidate should have played for India or any other country at international level.

3. Should hold a minimum of NCA Level ‘C’ certification for a coach.
4. Should have featured in a minimum of 50 FC games.

Also, the ideal candidate should have coached an international team for a period of a minimum of 1 year or a T20 franchise for a minimum of 2 years. Earlier, the former Mumbai legend was a part of the IPL team Rajasthan Royals and has also played the role of a coach at the National Cricket Academy. He was also assigned the role of a coach for the Mumbai team two years ago and it was under his coaching Mumbai won Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Previously, Muzumdar worked as a batting coach with the South African team. As a batter, he has collected 11,167 first-class runs at an average of 48.13. The richest cricket board has not roped in a new head coach for the women’s team till the T20 World Cup earlier. What they did was they asked India cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar to take up the senior women’s team as batting coach and oversaw operations. Kanitkar has been working as a batting consultant at the NCA.
