Dhaka: Bangladeshi umpire Moniruzzaman has decided to quit umpiring in cricket after the misbehaviour from Bangladesh player Mahmudullah Riyad during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match.
Gazi Group Captain Riyad sat on the ground and touched the grass after Alok Kapali was adjudged not out by the umpire. He expressed his dissatisfaction along with the other players of Gazi Group.
Reportedly, match referee Raqibul Hasan fined Mahmudullah Tk 20,000. He had violated the Code of Conduct 2.8. But the umpire has now decided to quit all forms of cricket stating that he is not in cricket "just for the money" and demanded some sort of respect from the players.
“Enough is enough for me and I don’t want to do umpiring anymore. I have some self-respect and want to live with it. Umpires can make mistakes but if we are treated in this manner, there is no point in doing it anymore because I am not in it just for the money,” Moniruzzaman told Cricbuzz.
Such an incident about misbehaviour with umpires is not new. Previously Shakib al Hasan was also involved in one such brawl. Take a look at the video below:
Commenting on Shakib’s incident, Moniruzzaman said, “I was not involved in Shakib's game. The way he behaved was something very hard for me to digest. In the Mahmudullah match, I was the TV umpire and watching the episode closely. It left me numb and at that point, I decided not to carry on with umpiring.”
