Mohammad Shami went through a lot before finding himself in the Indian squad for the England Test series. The controversy sparked by his wife followed by his failure in the Yo-Yo test pushed him on the edge for a while. He even had to lose his place from the historic Test against Afghanistan. However, it was his hard work which paid him back, giving him the space that he deserved.

On Wednesday, when India had to bowl first against the Englishmen at Edgbaston, Shami turned out to be the first seamer to get a scalp. He removed Keaton Jennings and restricted him from getting a half-century in the series opener.

Soon, he also got rid of Dawid Malan and sent him packing on 8.

Cut to Day 2; India just started the day’s play and guess what… Shami struck again and plucked his 3rd scalp. He removed Sam Curran and bundled up England on 287.

Shami ended up bowling in the first innings with the figures of 19.4-64-3.
