In a setback to the Indian ODI team, which is playing a series against South Africa, pace bowler Deepak Chahar has suffered an ankle injury and is likely to miss the remaining two games, PTI reported. Chahar twisted his ankle during a training session before the first match against South Africa in Lucknow, which India lost by nine runs despite a valiant effort by Sanju Samson.

In the first ODI, Chahar didn't take part as the Indian team opted for Avesh Khan, Shardul Thakur and Md Siraj as the three pace bowling options. Shikhar Dhawan's side lost by nine runs, failing to chase 250 in 40 overs.

"Deepak has sustained a twisted ankle but it's not too serious. However a few days of rest might be advisable," an official privy to selection issues told PTI.

"So it will be team management's call if they would like to risk Deepak as he is in T20 World Cup stand-by list. In any case, if there is requirement there, it would be a priority," he further said.

Md Shami Likely To Replace Bumrah In T20 WC Squad

Its almost certain that senior pace bowler Mohammed Shami will replace Jasprit Bumrah in the T20 World Cup squad. Shami is slowly and surely getting match-fit and is expected to fly to Australia within the next three to four days, PTI reported quoting the offficial.

"Mohammed Shami, if fit, was always going to be the first replacement as that's the closest Indian team can get in terms of sheer quality. He will be joining some time next week," he said.

Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the tournament with a back injury.
