Background
DC vs RCB, WPL Final Live Score: Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the all-exclusive and eagerly-awaited Women's Premier League 2024 Final between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Delhi Capitals finished on top of the table and for that reason, the Meg Lanning-led side qualified directly for the final, whereas Royal Challengers Bangalore caused one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, as Smriti Mandhana's side ousted defending champions Mumbai Indians in a low-scoring thriller.
Delhi Capitals fell like ninepins at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, and that too when it mattered the most, in the Grand Finale! After what looked like a challenging total in the making, Delhi gave it all away and collapsed at just 118 in 18.3 overs.
After winning the toss, Meg Lanning opted to bat first against Smriti Mandhana's RCB. Lanning and Shafali Verma opened the innings for Delhi Capitals, propelling the team to a flying start as they were 61-0 after 6 overs.
Shafali Verma launched an unstoppable assault, single-handedly propelling DC's score past 50 in no time. She took on Renuka Thakur, smashing her for a six in the fourth over, and with Lanning's support, DC garnered 19 runs from that particular over bowled by Renuka Thakur. Shafali spared no one, not even RCB's one of the best bowlers, Ellyse Perry, who had already delivered an excellent over, conceding just three runs. Shafali struck Perry for 11 runs, which included a six and a boundary, in the fifth over.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly for Delhi Capitals until the 8th over when Sophie Molineux made a significant impact by claiming three wickets in the same over, putting the high-flying DC in a challenging position.
Molineux first dismissed Shafali Verma and then proceeded to bowl out Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey on consecutive deliveries.
There was no recovery for Delhi from that point onwards as they kept losing wickets to poor shot selection from their players. RCB’s Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux were the wreckers-in-chief as they accounted for seven of DC’s wickets.
RCB started their batting innings cautiously as they did not go for the big shots much in the first six overs. Their score after the power play stood at 25-0, with Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine in the middle. Sophie Devine, however, put her foot on the gas pedal as she hit 18 runs off the seventh over bowled by Radha Yadav.
Soon enough, Devine fell, but not before making sure that RCB were in great stead to win their maiden WPL title. Shikha Pandey got Devine out LBW on the first ball of the ninth over. Despite the wicket, RCB are right on track for an easy win as they are at 56-1 after 10 overs, with Mandhana and Ellyse Perry out in the middle for them.
